If one needed further irrefutable proof of the triumph of capitalism over communism, look no further than the gift shop at the Checkpoint Charlie Museum. The detritus from the Cold War era, such as this chunk of the Berlin Wall, can be yours, for a price, natch.
The business mode is thriving, as people were falling over themselves to own a piece of history. After recovering from the sticker shock of the above souvenir, I did snap up some Checkpoint Charlie chocolate for the low, low price of two euro. (There appears to be a healthy revenue stream from licensing as well!)
Over at the Eastside Gallery, which features sections of the still intact Wall adorned with the work of local artists, some intrepid entrepreneurs are employing a similar but even more creative model:
